Outlook Express Brief Overview
This overview will explain how to do the following things in Outlook Express:
- Composing a new message
- Adding people to your Address Book
- Creating a new Folder
- Creating a Rule
Composing a new message
To compose a new message click on Create Mail at the top left of the window. To use the address book to add people to the "To:" list then click on To: and then select the contacts you want to send the message to and click on To: -> or you can place them into the "Cc" and "Bcc" fields if its nessasary. To add attachments to your message click on the paper clip icon in the row of icons and then a new window will open. Browse for the file you want to attach and click on Attach. When the message is finished click on Send in the top left to send your message.
Adding people to your Address Book
To add someone to your address book you have to click on Addesses at the top of the window and then a new window will open. This window contains all your contacts, to add a new contact click on New at the top and a drop down menu will appear, click on New Contact.... In the new window fill out the details of the contact you want to add and then click on OK and the contact will be added to your address book.
Creating a new Folder
To create a new folder right click on any of the existing folders and click on New Folder... then in the input box type in the name of the new folder and then in the box below select the folder that you want the folder you are creating to be a sub-folder of. So if i wanted my folder to be created inside the Inbox folder I would select Inbox and then click on OK.
Creating a Rule
To create a rule go to Tools then Message Rules then Mail... and a new window will appear. In the first box you have to choose the conditions of your rule, the rule will apply to all messages that meet these conditions. After choosing a condition you will have to click on the blue writing in the description to edit the specifics of that condition. In the 2nd box you will have to choose actions that will be applied to the messages that meet the conditions you have set. After choosing an action you will have to click on the blue writing in the description to edit the specifics of that action. Review the description and if it is correct then name your rule and click on OK.
