Support - How to Change your Monitor Size

Windows 95/98/2000

Please note that not all computers are the same so some settings displayed below might not suit your system.

  1. Using your mouse click on the Start button on the bottom tool bar.
  2. Select > Settings > Control Panel. (A new window will open.)
  3. Double click on The Display icon.
  4. A new window call Display Properties will open up. eg picture below
  5. Click on the Settings tab.

  6. The arrows point to settings for your monitor and video.

    Monitor and Video Card Details: Tells you what video card and monitor you have. If this is unknown you might not be able to change any settings just yet. Email for help.

    Screen Size: Has a slider bar which can be set at several different settings depending on your computer, but generally, 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768.

    Colour Settings: This pull down menu changes how many colours are displayed on screen, again different computer will show different settings, but generally, 256, 16BIT, 24BIT, 32BIT

  7. We will now change your monitor size to 800x600 if it is already at 800x600 change it to 640x480. Note this may require you to re-start your computer.
  8. Click on the slider bar and drag it so the settings 800x600 are displayed i.e. generally to the right direction.
  9. We will now change your colour settings to display its maximum amount of colours.
  10. Click on the pull down menu arrow and click on the bottom setting or the highest colour. But watch you screen size to see if it changes, if it does change you can not have these high level settings, try 16bit with 800x600, if it still doesn't work keep trying different settings.
  11. When you are happy with your settings Click OK. This may require you to restart your computer.
  12. After your computer has refreshed its screen or restarted you will notice a difference in overall size of windows and icons. This means you have successful changed your screen size.
