Support - FAQ's about spam

I'm getting spam that is not being marked as spam, why?

Clue Design does not control what emails are marked as spam, and which are not, but here are a few possibilities:

  1. Someone typed your email address in a web site somewhere... Those greeting cards web sites can be a real pain!
  2. The mail server that the email was sent from is not yet blacklisted.
  3. You are on a legitimate mailing list, you need to unsubscribe.
  4. The WEIGHT is not 10 or above, you can further tighten down spam by blocking [3], [4], [5], [6], etc...

I'm getting email marked as spam, but it's not, why?

Clue Design does not control what emails are marked as spam, and which are not, but here are a few possibilities:

  1. The sender is sending email from a server whose IP address is blacklisted.
  2. The sender is sending email from an open relay, or a VERY poorly set up mail server.

Why do I get so much spam?

The most likely reason you get spam is because your email address is clearly printed in a web site somewhere. Spiders crawl web sites 24/7 looking for email addresses. Go to google.com and search for your email address, you just might be surprised.

My email to my clients is getting blocked by them because of this "IPNOTINMX" spam test! ?

Not exactly. We do not block or bounce mail, but we do check every email to see if it was sent from the same IP address that the DNS MX record is set. If not, it will fail this test, and the header of the email will be marked. If you are sending email from your web server (not your mail server) and the destination mail server is doing a similar test, and blocking your email because of this reason, then they are on the "extremely paranoid spam" setting, and they will be blocking yours, and other legitimate email. Tell them to lighten up on their spam settings. If, however, they are blocking you because you don't have a reverse DNS (that's another super paranoid setting), let us know, and we can set one up for you.
