One method of prevention involves downloading the latest browser software such as Internet Explorer 7, Firefox 3 or Safari 3 as these latest browser versions have implemented their own safety measures to combat the problem.  Note that official support for Netscape has ended on February 1st, 2008. • Install Anti-Virus Software & Keep it up-to-date!
  • Make sure your software firewall is on, or better still get a hardware firewall.
  • Change your passwords every 2 to 3 weeks.
  • Always create a login and create strong passwords. Avoid using your pets name, last name, date of birth or other common identifiers.
  • Use digits, symbols and a combination of lower and uppercase letters to create a password that will be very difficult to guess.
  • Don't subscribe to anything you're not sure about.
  • Don't post your email in any public forum or website.
  • Don't open suspicious emails.
  • Don't reply to spam email messages as it can confirm your email address.
  • Do take the time to educate yourself and your family about the risks.
  • Never give out your credit card details in emails! Never!
